Colour | Form

1st - 7th August 2022

BobCat Gallery collaborated with South London gallery Bermondsey Project Space to showcase a bold and bright collection of abstract artwork as part of new exhibition ‘Colour|Form’, generously supported by STATE Magazine.

The show explored our relationship with abstract art, delving into how and why the human mind is programmed to seek out shape and meaning in pure colour and form.

Catherine Sweet, Curator and Founder of BobCat Gallery, says: “BobCat Gallery artists have created a riot of colour and technique in this show, including everything from handmade watercolours, etching, glass sculpture and installation, to intricate handwritten creations.

There is something particular about the appeal of abstract art - sometimes it is visceral, sometimes it is joyous, but always it starts as at an emotional level. More than any figurative pieces, abstracts have the power to speak to each of us as an individual.

In selecting for this show, I have aimed to bring together works that are powerful and punchy, as well as those which are gentler and more contemplative, so that as the exhibition unfolds each visitor will find those pieces which tug at them, and pull them in for a closer look.”

Participating artists include Anne Sweet, Brian Harris, Caroline Banks, Catherine Sweet, Christopher Sweet, Clare Smith, Despina Symeou, Diana Burch, Gerardo La Porta, Jill Meager, Judy Century, Kira Phoenix K’Inan, Laura Fishman, Laura Parker, Linda Chapman, Pernilla Iggstrom, Rebecca Tucker and Taya De La Cruz.
